"The Green Bean" Does Field Day 2007

The Green Bean once again provided the radio platform for Field Day 2007, as sponsored by the ARRL and operated by K1UR and K1NR. Having really enjoyed operating from Colt State Park in Rhode Island during 2005 we decided to head towards the same area again, but this time be a bit more adventurous and operate from an island, Prudence Island to be specific. Much of the island is public land, including a state park as well as the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve. Thus a large portion of the island is available to explore and there looked to be a number of good operating locations, all right on the water which of course can be a good thing for antenna performance.

After taking the ferry over and exploring a bit we settled "the old stone wharf" as our operating location. One of the island locals told us this was the 19th century steamship dock but now its little more than a pile of stones extending from the end of the road into the water.

We settled in, got set up and in addition to operating, watched the air show that was taking place only three miles away across the bay at Quonset Point which included the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as the final performance. Some of the flying did distract us from operating!

With perfect weather and way too much to do and see before taking the final ferry of the day home, we had a great island adventure.
