Callahan Cache North

Photo Tour

Let's continue with a photo tour of the cache. Spoiler alert! Do not view this page until after you've found the cache yourself.

Cache #1 After using the rock cairn as a landmark, the first goal is to find the Purple Sun, a rock on the trail heading north from the cairn. What is it? Who knows, but there it is, out there in the middle of the woods.

Cache #2 The second goal is the U-tree. This is found along Backbacker Trail among a large grove of pine trees. The shape of this tree is certainly unusual! You should have found a film can in the trunk of this tree. OOPS! Check that...another cache was planted in nearly the same spot (though not under the U-tree) so it was decided to move the second cache...

Near Cache #2 Trying to make the math simple in calculating a spot relative to the mysterious purple sun put the next cache in this pine grove. Fortunately, a pine tree with a convenient notch in it was located at just the right spot to plant the cache, as seen in the photo at the right. Cache #2

Near Cache #3 Finally, here it is! The location of Callahan Cache North, south of Backpacker Trail, north of Bear Paw Trail, and just beside the small field in the woods. The long range view is looking from the north into the area surrounded by stone walls. The close-up is the tree and wall under which the cache is hidden. Cache #3

Near Cache #3 If you approached the cache from the small open field the approach would have looked like this (photo left). And there it is...(photo right) hidden by the stone wall, under the fallen tree, covered with leaves. Cache #3 Box
